Game 1  The Between Game  © 2001

This game gives students practice in dividing the alphabet into sections and placing letters in alphabetical order within a range. It's fast, it's fun, and it is worth the trouble to make.

Designed by Mr. Fox

For 2-4 Players

Objective: To play all of your cards before any other player does.

Materials: Board and set of 26 cards. One card for each letter of the alphabet. ( In advanced game, one card for each second letter of the alphabet. In expert game, a special set of cards is provided.)

Levels of Play:

Beginner - Board with letters

Intermediate - Board without letters

Advanced - Cards with letters AA - AZ

Expert - Cards with letters AAA - ZZZ

How to Play

Begin: Each player draws a card from the deck. The player whose card is closest to Z is the dealer. Dealer shuffles cards and deals three cards to each player. Dealer turns up the next two cards and places them in their matching places on the board. These are the Between Cards.

Play: Player to the left of the dealer plays any one card he holds that is between the two cards on the board. If a player can not play a card, he must choose one from the deck. Letters A, M, and Z may be played at any time. Players may play cards in any open spot between the two Between Cards. Players may play cards directly adjacent to the Between Cards or any card played adjacent to the Between Cards.

The player who is the first to play all of his/her cards is the winner of the game.
